Celebrating the Easter fish tradition

Thursday, April 13th, 2017

For many of us, Easter seems like a natural time to enjoy some salmon or other kinds of fish. Like many of our traditions, this originates in the Church when Good Friday – a black day in the Church calendar – was so also decreed a day of fasting.Louise Coulbeck handing out a fish parcel to factory op, Scott (more…)

Two of the lovely JCS Fish ladies went along to the Grimsby Food Kitchen on Sunday to offer a helping hand in the kitchen. Ann and Andrea (pictured) were put on pudding duty, serving up delicious chocolate sponge with custard!

The Grimsby Food Kitchen is a local charity that JCS Fish often support, they work within the community helping those less fortunate. They feed the lonely and the vulnerable, as well as offering a shoulder to cry on and encouragement. They work with people over the age of 18, who have an addiction to try lead them back onto the right path.

The ladies both volunteered to go along to the Food Kitchen, and it seems the help was very gratefully received. Cath Homewood, from the Grimsby Food Kitchen, said the girls did great and their help was very much appreciated.

Still time to stock up with Easter fish from BigFish™ Brand

Thursday, March 3rd, 2016

The British tradition of eating fish at Easter has its roots in the Christian church, which decreed that Good Friday should be a day of abstinence from red meat. Even though many people no longer regard themselves as religious, the Easter weekend is still a time when many families plan to eat fish so it’s also a great time to make sure you’ve some good fish options in stock for your customers.

Making fish easy for small to medium sized retailers is the award-winning BigFish™ Brand which offers a selection of delicious, easy to prepare salmon products. The range is supplied in distinctive, attractive packaging which is easy to handle and eliminates any issues of smell or stock contamination. Since the products are frozen, waste is not an issue.

On Sunday 6th September, the JCS Fish Triathlon Team are going to compete in the Louth Triathlon to raise money for the Cleethorpes RNLI Station in memory of Chris Johnson’s brothers – Ben & Craig

There are six members of staff in the Team who are

Andrew Coulbeck, the Managing Director
John Grey, the Commercial Director
Luke Gallagher
Chris Johnson
Anthony Thompson
Mark Davis

Andrew and John are joined by their sons – Jack Coulbeck and Jack Grey.

This is the second year of the Louth Triathlon and is part of the Lincolnshire Triathlon Series.  The venue is the Meridian Leisure Centre in Louth, where the 400 metre swim will take place.  The transition has moved into the school fields next to the Leisure Centre which provides a dedicated route out onto the bike section.  This is a relatively flat route of 22km although it has been described as a great bike ride as “it doesn’t allow you to stay in the saddle”.

The Triathlon finishes with a 5km run, part of which is alongside The Railway Walk which will be closed to the general public on the day.
