Salmon is Britain’s favourite fish (it’s official!)

Friday, November 18th, 2016

We read in the-grocerthis week’s Grocer magazine (12 November) that total sales of salmon have now overtaken those of tuna – confirming salmon as officially ‘Britain’s favourite fish!’

The Grocer also reports that overall sales of all fish are up, with shoppers spending nearly £3bn on seafood last year.

Here at JCS Fish of course salmon has always been our favourite, but it’s great to know that the rest of the UK agrees with us.  And why not, as well as being delicious, salmon is one of the healthiest fish you can buy!

Hand-Made Poppies for Remembrance Day

Tuesday, November 1st, 2016

Every year we take part in the two minutes silence on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, to remember those that have fallen all them years ago.

We donate to The Royal British Legion, a fantastic charity raising money to support the families of the fallen heroes of the First and Second World Wars. This year, The Royal British Legion are asking people to Rethink Remembrance. Remembering not only the fallen heroes of the WWI and WWII, but the heroes of todays generation making sacrifices in the Armed Forces.

But this year, we wanted to do something a little different… We collaborated with the fantastic volunteers at A Good Yarn in Cleethorpes to knit and crochet our own poppies.

It was much more difficult than you think, we all had great attempts, but was outshined by the fabulous poppies made by the true experts at A Good Yarn. The ladies were very good at teaching us the basics of how to crochet and knit and set us on our way, but while we made just the one poppy they had made at last 2 each!

It takes a lot of hard work and a lot of skill, we hold true admiration for the ladies that have mastered the skill!

We’re selling the poppies from our Factory Shop on the Grimsby Docks, with a minimum donation of £2. After all of the hard work the crochet team from JCS Fish and the volunteers at A Good Yarn, we’re hoping to raise as much as we possibly can, please visit us and pick up your hand-made poppy to help us raise money for this great cause.
