Coming soon – a new film about Grimsby with some proper Northern humour!


Last year we were delighted to support the production of Grimsby Girl, a dark, humorous and feel good short film where the bad guys get their comeuppance and the good girls kick ass!

Written and produced by local lass, Niya Hill, it offers a brilliantly different perspective on our home town, fighting all the negative perceptions and flying in the face of all those Grimsby clichés.

The film is now in post-production and the Grimsby Girl team are hoping to raise enough money through a final crowdfunding effort to send it on a tour of festivals.  You can read more about it on the Grimsby Girl website.

This month the BigFish team were delighted to welcome another member of the Coulbeck family to the company team.

Jack Coulbeck has joined JCS Fish as commercial manager, strengthening the company’s commercial function in a year when the business is anticipating continued growth and the launch of a number of new products in its Big Fish Brand salmon range.

Celebrating Scottish Salmon

We were delighted last week to join 100 delegates from the Scottish salmon industry to celebrate the 25th anniversary of farmed Scottish salmon being awarded ‘Label Rouge’ status by the French government.

When this happened, way back in 1992, salmon was the very first fish and the first non-French product ever to be awarded Label Rouge, which is a prestigious accolade that indicates superior taste and quality.

At the event, everyone – be they farmers or processors – was very passionate about farmed salmon and there were some great discussions about the industry, past, present and future. The day’s meeting was followed by an evening event at Edinburgh Castle, when of course we all enjoyed some fine Scottish salmon!

Women in seafood: International Women’s Day 2017

Louise, who co-founded JCS Fish Limited in 2000, is one of a number of leading women in the seafood industry who feature as part of the new Seafish ‘Women in Seafood‘ campaign, launched today as part of International Women’s Day.

International Women’s Day 2017 is highlighting its #BeBoldforChange campaign, which aims to forge a more inclusive and equal working world for women.   In support of this, Seafish has interviewed a number of senior women in seafood about their experiences, aspirations and hopes for the industry.
